Mondial

	Description Mondial is an oval shaped potato with pale yellow flesh and skin. It was first selected for its winter performance as a replacement for Spunta. It produces high yields of medium to large tubers with smooth skin and shallow eyes. Mondial has improved cosmetic appearance over the Delaware variety.

Maturity

Mondial matures 2 weeks later than Delaware in crops planted in February and April to July. Mondial's longer maturity may be an indication of better blight tolerance.

Disease Reactions

Improved tolerance to powdery scab compared to Spunta. Resistant to PCN and leaf roll virus.

Plant Spacing

Spacing during trials in Manjimup, Pemberton, Myalup and Baldivis was set at 6" (15cm). The tubers will become very large and misshapen if they are planted too far apart.

Agronomy Tip

A reduction in Nitrogen applications should result in improved quality and reduced risk of hollow heart.

Cooking Characteristics

Mondial boils very well, remaining whole with no discolouration. It mashes smooth with only a few ricey particles. Microwave quality is good but chips are quite greasy. Taste is very good.
